This is a rather large jewelry box I received many years ago. It was purchased in Birks, one of the better stores here in Canada. The music box plays Fuer Elise by Beethoven.
Thanks for looking:)

You have the best music box maker in the world there, Reuge from Switzerland. I have many boxes and they are the best. They are still in production today.
Sadly the box itself isnt too rare but cherished I'm sure as many of mine are the same.
How many teeth does it have? And could you post a photo of the movement please?
Your's is what we call Sorrento ware. Made mainly for the tourist market visiting the south of Italy, hence Sorrento. Having been there myself I can see why ppl want a souvenier from the place. The makers also exported a bunch of these around the world for department store sales.
So many items were and are still made. With either painted in inlaid work. Yours with the colours and a little fade look like possible 1940'50's but could date either side as tons come out and this style is still made today.
Music boxes became popular again in the 1960's when the Sound of Music was made. A huge revival.
Lovely item and thank you for posting...
AnneLanders, sorry for never answering your comment. I just check this posting today:(
