I commented on a canceled check autograph the other day, so I thought that I would post this from my old days of MLB autograph collecting.
Back in the 70s- early 80s, all it took was the Baseball Address guide, a Self Addressed Stamped Envelopes, 3 X 5 cards and a lot of stamps to assemble a collection of Old Time Baseball autographs.
Most baseball players were very receptive to mailed autograph requests and within about 2 weeks of a request, a return would usually arrive.
I can remember the DAILY excitement of getting off the school bus and then checking the mail box to see who had mailed their autographs back to me... Musial, Mays, Dimaggio.....
A select few didn't respond-- notably Ted Williams!
As baseball autographs became big business in the 80s with shows and paid appearance, it became harder to assemble a collection without paying.

I know this feeling. I also love the waiting and the daily excitement of checking the mailbox for my vintage portraits. And I love when something has a great story. The story is the essence. And this piece has a memorable story.
Thanks for looking and commenting guardian and sean.
