The story goes my grandfather saved this chair from the Hyde Hotel in Ridgway, PA as it burnt down. My mother had it reupholstered in the early 80's. She gave it to my dad as a gift. When they died I took possession of it. Who is the maker and what time could it be from. I would say it is tiger oak. I should add that the chairs were on the front porch so he didn't run into a burning building. I found a post card that actually shows the rockers on the front porch. See the pictures.

Much as I enjoy chairs, I never met anyone who would go in a burning building to save a chair. Interesting story.

Love it! You and I share similar stories from our Grandfathers and their heroic fire chairs-- mine saved the one I have posted on here too, his brother threw it on a fire as they were cleaning out a newly purchased building. Too funny. Excellent chair, it looks incredibly comfortable like being wrapped in a hug.
