I was wondering if anyone can tell me a little bit about this trunk I got at an estate sale yesterday. I saw it and fell in love. It is in a little rough shape, but I am hoping to fix it up a bit. All the hardware seems to be intact and gorgeous. I was trying to figure out where to get a key for the lock, since it didn't come with one, and I read that usually it would be written on the latch? As far as I can tell, because it is really worn and weathered, around the key hole says "Pat D Mar 69 & Apr 77" and there are little stars before the Pat and right after the 77. There is no other writing inside or outside of the trunk that I can see. One of the handles is broken off and needs to be replaced. There is a tray inside that has lids for each compartment, but they are detached and pretty beat up. The pictures on them are beautiful though.
If anyone could give any info or tips on how to fix it up, seeing as though I am totally clueless on how to do it properly, I would greatly appreciate it!
Looks like a very nice trunk, very expensive in it's day.
One of our residents trunk experts will be along to give you some more info.
I would not do a thing to your trunk. It is fantastic as is.
All the wall paper is severely damaged, peeling, and stained so I am removing it.
I plan on sanding the wood and just leaving it as it. I already started removing some of the wall paper and the wood underneath is gorgeous.
I just don't know how to clean the outside?
