These well used binoculars were captured when the German submarine U 953 surrendured at Trondheim, Norway on May 9th, 1945. This u boat went on 10 war patrols and sank one ship during this time. The sailor who took these binoculars scratched the number of the u boat, as well as his military serial number on the binoculars. It was very common for soldiers of all armies to take souvenirs from the enemy.
