    TallCakes
    (114 items)

This is the cake stand used for my nephews wedding back in the summer; tho' the one used was a non-frosted stem. The cake stand used for the wedding was gifted to the couple. This cake stand is too often listed as "Tree of Life with Hand" which has the same hand stem. This version is simply known as 'Hand Stem' and is available in both frosted and non-frosted stems.

thanks WP : ) the way the hand is held along with the lace effect seems very Victorian lady-like to me...

thanks eye : ) no, I've not been approached on the glass displays. Only publication I can claim is years ago the local paper published a group of my wildlife/bird photos. The paper has an online section for readers to post their photos, and one of the editors of the paper picked up on my bird photos and wanted to do a nature photography column. When she came to my house she was enthralled with the green glass section of my cake stands.

I do have some nature photos on the "Photos" tab of my website, tho' I haven't been too good this year at doing any updates there. I should have some cardinal photos somewhere around here but not too sure of quality...

Hello TallCakes! I'm spending a few months in "warm" Florida and doing some shopping at some great Antiques mall. Today I came across the exact stem with a scalloped & panelled "tree of life" bowl. It had a candleholder receptacle in the centre of the bowl but I suspect it may have been as an insert for a figurine in glass. I don't have access to my books and can't find it online.....have you ever come across this particular Hobbs tree of life item. I'm using my cell phone so I can't upload any photos at this time. Thanks, Bob

Hey Bob, Florida sounds like a great place to be considering the cold spell we are having here. Yes, Hobbs made an epergne in the Tree of Life pattern. Here's an image link: http://p2.la-img.com/1107/61195/30418758_1_x.jpg

Oh boy, that's exactly it! What are the chances of finding the exact Hobbs & Brockunier epergne to complete it....I guess I'll use it as a candleholder. I did end up buying it since it was priced right. Thanks for your always valuable help. PS: It's been colder for a few days but nothing like in Chicago and no snow. RER (Bob)

Yep, it's probably gonna take a while to find a Hobbs TOL epergne horn, as that's prolly the part that breaks first. I'd go back and scour the mall to see if by chance the parts got separated. Hobbs also made a footed vase in the same shape as the horn. Surely there are some compatible 'go-with' epergne horns that one might find to compliment the TOF form : )

Did you make the cake too TC?
I think every one should visit TC's web site - it's a feast for the senses. Cakes, recipes, Cake Stands, Flowers, Birds - a multi, multi talened CW'er. (He makes the cakes for members of his family and friends!)

@ Gillian: yes, I made the cake; yellow cake with buttercream frosting...
