These two photos represent the majority of my cufflink and tie bar collection. The links in the red case are either broken or mis-mated. The tie bars in the red case are one of a kind or missing their original mates. If I have the matching tie bar, I keep it with the links in the black case.
The red case also has the two timepieces I wear most often, my grandfather's Seiko from I believe 1972 and a Waltham pocket watch from 1899 (still runs great!).
I have been collecting cufflinks since 1984, but I go through dry spells and bursts. I am in a burst right now, and have bought about 30 cufflinks in the past couple of weeks. I have always loved my collection, despite the lack of true monetary value or quality of the metals or gemstones. I get most of my cufflinks at swap meets or on eBay through lots. I'm not proud. :)
I believe that many collectors don't always collect because of value but rather enjoyment. I do, anyway, because I enjoy a good "hunt" and the research that follows. You have a very interesting collection and I love the way you organize it:)
A great collection and thanks for the story on how you started.
Do your workmates notice your cufflinks, and are they aware of your obsession?lol
Thank you for the Love/Likes everyone!
And to those that commented, a sincere personal thank you as well.
Phil: Thank you for the kind words. "Interesting" is one way to describe it. Hodge podge with no rhyme or reason is another. ????
Valentino: Thank you for your comment! I have read your other posts and agree that you need to get a blouse or altar an existing garment. I am a. If believer in putting our cufflink collections to use! Granted I have an easy way out for that considering my profession (I really am a banker ??), but my profession notwithstanding, I believe with collections such as ours that putting them out there in the public sight only helps to bring some of that old fashioned haberdashery back to our terribly casual modern society. As I type this, I am sitting at a poker table in Las Vegas, wearing a casual french cuff shirt I picked up on eBay. Engaged in conversations about my current cufflink choice (a wrap around silver pair from 1970's Swank. Thanks again for the post!
Freiheit: Agreed wholeheartedly on the "hunt" aspect. I absolutely LOVE swap meets. The discovery, the negotiation, the value, the excitement that comes out of the entire experience. Even casually browsing ebay is exciting to me. Thank you also for the comments on my general collection and organization (or lack thereof, in my opinion ????). I need to categorize them in the case, like all wrap-arounds together, or animals, or otherwise. I tried to do some of that (like the financial institutions grouped together), but for the most part, it's kind of a hodge podge. And I'm totally fine with that. ????
Racer: My coworkers do notice my collection, especially my boss that remarks in them almost daily. However, my obsession is really kept to myself (and here, obv). My clients, though, probably notice them the most. It is literally a daily conversation starter, which I enjoy. Thanks for the comment and the kind words.
Please excuse the typos in my last post. I replied from my iPhone at the poker table so I didn't proofread. I would be hypocritical if I didn't apologize since poor grammar in Internet posts (and in writing in general) is an idiosyncratic annoyance of mine.
A wonderful collection! Thank you for sharing. =)
HeirloomAngel: Thank you for the kind words. I'm happy to share and keep the cufflink spirit alive!
I actually have photographed every single pair in my collection (for a Facebook album), and was debating whether or not to post all of them here (with backstory, when available, for each pair. I will probably just pick my top 10 or 20 favorites and post those. I just discovered this community a few days ago and am still getting acclimated and don't want to overstay my welcome. ????
Great collection....
Thank you, DrFluffy!
Really cool collection, you can post them all if you want with the story :)
Haha. Thanks for the encouragement Jewels. I will definitely post more. I'll just start posting my favorites and go from there. You'll see some pics and backatories posted soon. I just got an ebay score in the mail yesterday. A mixed lot of 13 pairs, 2 singletons, 3 tie bars, and a vintage case. They accepted the best offer I submitted. That's still one of my favorite things about cufflink collecting: can be a supercheap hobby if you don't mind metal and playing versus gold and sterling. ????
Ah I love them, no matter the metal, I have a pair of snap cuff links I found the other day in with some buttons. I will post them now... :)
Also wanted to show you these, they are little ivory hand cufflinks. I also have another pair with red stones, but cannot find them, maybe I gave them away...

Jewels: Those little hands are quite nice and dainty!
I have some snap ones too. Not my favorites, mainly because they don't work so well with my dress shirts. But they are not my least favorite style of cufflinks. That special title of least favorite cufflinks is reserved exclusively for silk knot links. Hate those. I have 3 or 4 pairs of them, all brand new Polo RL received as gifts.
I look forward to your posts!
Thank you mister! I love them as well! Ah okay, the snaps aren't too practical. Glad you wear them, that's really cool and classy :)
Haha. Thanks. I don't know about classy. Wearing some of those gargantuan wrap around ones from the 70's is more Saturday Night Fever than class. ????
Ha! Ha! I guess I don't know what those look like! Next time you post, model as worn. But, I still say classy and different :)
valentino: I guess I just give off that banker vibe. Maybe I should change my after shave. :-P
I did pretty well at the table, actually. Took until 430AM, but finally got even and then made a decent profit. Spent most of the time scanning eBay for cufflinks and browsing CW. I am off today so I got to pull an all nighter without having to worry about sleeping in my office (clients tend to frown on that).
I spent a couple hours this morning going through some new links I acquired yesterday via eBay. I will be posting them later today. The cufflink case that it came with is in much better condition than most. I have reorganized some of the collection because of the new case and have moved all wrap-arounds to it instead of the black glass front case. The wrap arounds take up nearly double the amount of space that the others do, so it makes more sense.
Thanks again for your post! I am just getting the hang of this community. Much more to come!
For some reason, whenever I post from my iPhone, it always adds "????" to the end of my comment. On an initial posting, I can edit it and delete them, but I don't think there is a way to edit post comments, so please forgive the random "????" addition to my comments from the phone. Which will probably be further demonstrated as soon as I submit this one. ????
Do not know how I missed these -- Guess because it is that Time of the Season when your running around with your head cut off.
Super and stunning collection!!
Thank you Antiquerose!
What an eye candy. Fabulous collection!
