I would be interested in learning about the history of Christmas snakes. This little guy came in a box of vintage ornaments I bought at a yard sale 25 years ago. I thought it was a spiral that looked like a snake, but apparently Christmas snakes are a thing, or were back in the day. Any information greatly appreciated, thanks!

Is the metal cap marked? Poland or Germany, maybe?
Hi Jewels, I hadn't thought to check, let me look right now ...
It says Czechoslovakia.
Ah okay, awesome ornament! Google antique or vintage Czech ornaments, 1920's or 1930's I think
Tried, no joy. I found a site that specializes in Czech ornaments, they didn't have a snake ornament, though.
Yes, he is a cute little guy! And I got a snake phobia! LOL!
A-ha, found the answer! In an LATimes article about the ornament designer Radko:
When Radko talks about each ornament, lovingly holding the glass art work in his hand, it's obvious that a part of him goes into each object.
His snake ornament also has a story. "The Victorians always had a snake on their trees to remind them of the Garden of Eden, but the snakes had clown faces so as not to scare the children."
There you have it. Solved my own mystery!
Cool, cool, cool, love it! Love those Victorians!

Hey katherine - now I know that my beautiful red/clear glass ornament is - a Christmas snake! I have never heard them. I posted mine a couple of weeks ago.
