Does anyone know what this jug is for? The plaque on the front says:
    Protection
    Approved Safety Can
    Manufactured for
    LaFranceFireEngine and Foamite Limited
    Toronto, Canada
My Dad was on the fire department here in our local township for 30 years. For a few years, when a new fire hall was needed and being built, we housed one of the tankers in our farm shop. A lot of relics have been left behind, but I have never seen this one. My guess is that maybe it was used to refill foamite fire extinguishers. Just curious.

It's a gas can designed to prevent explosions.

If you do a google image search for "vintage safety gas can" you will see similar ones.
