I was given this trunk by my grandmother who used to own an antique shop. I've tried searching the internet to find similar trunks, but everything seems fancier than mine. I'm not a collector of trunks so I don't know much about them. I'm curious if anyone would know any further information about this type of trunk. It looks like the hinges and handles are new and probably the little latch. These are the quick measurements I took: 19 wide, 31.5 long, and 22 deep.
This is a very nice European chest (well my guess from form and style) from around the 1900's. It is not a high quality chest but the beautiful inscription on it bumps up its value considerably... The replacement handles are similar to the original ones no doubt. It it were mine I would be inclined to "stain out" those front scratches to unify the piece a bit better and an optional clear coat of satin varathane to give it a bit of a shine. Others may suggest to leave as is...
trunkman! Thank you so much. Everything you said is so helpful!
This is very awesome indeed!!! As far as what you could do for this trunk, I totally agree with Trunkman.
