I found this cabinet at a yard sale, the owner said it was in the house originally, the homes in that area were built around 1930. I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me on what this type of cabinet would have been used for. I Originally thought that it might be a sewing cabinet but when I looked it up I am not finding anything that looks like this. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
It may just be me but I find your post a bit confusing. The age of the houses has no bearing on the cabinet and I am totally lost with the remark about the camera use!! The camera took blurry pictures in terms of seeming the hardware or joinery of the cabinet. Perhaps you could reword the post with useful facts and photo's.
Replace seeming with seeing above.
I edited the post. I originally posted it from my phone. I guess the phone changed the wording and I didn't check it before I posted it. I added the age of the home because the owner said it was in the home when it was built. I thought it might help in regards to what they used a cabinet like this for during that time.
I would venture to say this was built by the original owner as opposed to being commercially made. The door and the joint you show are not professionally done as they are sloppy with over cuts. Now don't get mad just yet. The crude in this makes it one of a kind. I seriously doubt you will find the maker's name unless you research the house and original owner. I think 1930's is being generous with the age.
Thank You. I was trying to figure out what they would have used it for. The top lid flips up the the storage area with different depths. It has only 1 drawer and then the lower cabinet. I think it must have had a particular purpose.
