I just added this fancy leather bound canvas covered round top to my trunk collection. It's 100% original and intact with the exception a few of the strap hold downs broken (to be expected) it's in very nice condition. Heavy solid brass hardware. I see a lot of round top trunks, but this one stood out to me as being quite unusual. The interior tray is missing, but the lining and document holder (in the lid) is 100% intact and amazingly clean inside. The best part is that it was a local estate find at an amazingly cheap price. All I've done to it is wipe the exterior down, clean and condition the leather. That's all I plan to do to this trunk. I'd prefer to leave this one untouched. Not sure the exact age of this one.
It's a beauty.
Thanks racer4four! It was a lucky find for sure.
Wow -- this is so nice!!! Really unusual ad it has such a great look. I have a wall trunk made in Montreal with the same leather pattern along the ridges -- not as full across the top as yours. This would be an 1880's trunk. Just a super find! Love it!!
Thanks Trunkman!! I've never seen a round top quite like this one before. I snagged it while I could. Just lucky I guess!
Wonderful trunk, Had a similar Haskell Brothers trunk years ago(Almost the same hardware)Only the leather on mine was roached, had to strip it , refinish and sell. Great to see the wonderful condition on yours ,as well as the Adams Express sticker .There's a cool history of a great early American shipping company as well.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Drill!! I googled Adams Express Company and though they started in the 1800's evidently they are still in business today. I am a history nut and so I love this kind of stuff.
Thanks for the loves everyone!!
Wow! This is very cool. I've never seen a trunk like this.
Thanks myoldkyhome!! This one jumped right out at me. I thought it was one of the most unusual round top trunks I'd ever seen. This nice thing is that the canvas and leather are 100% intact and in very nice condition still. I even had a key to fit the Corbin lock.
Thanks again!!
Scott
