The E. Ingraham Company was founded in 1835, Incorporated in 1884 and stayed in business as The E. Ingraham Co. until 1958.
In 1912 they purchased the Bannatyne Watch Co. which was in business from 1905-1911. In 1913 The E. Ingraham Co. made their 1st pocket watch fashioned after the Bannatyne watch (see the Bannatyne watch here: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/56142-the-bannatyne-watch-co?in=user). (or click on Dollar Watches at left).
The watch shown here is a E. Ingraham Co. watch named the STURDY manufactured in 1957 (as dated on the movement) which is at the end of The E. Ingraham Co. period. In 1958 it was renamed The Ingraham Co.. On Nov. 30, 1967 it was sold to McGraw-Edison and continued as the Ingraham Division of McGraw-Edison and began importing watches. They ceased making watches in the U.S. in 1971.
Also shown is the original box for the STURDY and the Guarantee & Instruction sheet.
These Non-Jeweled watches are known as "Dollar Watches". I wish CW would add this sub-catorgory in the pocket watch section.
