Hello, this is a vintage knee-hugger elf, made in Japan. I believe this one is late 50's or 1960's. I collect these little guys and we say that they are watching and reporting for santa (or for cw when I "violate" rules ;) Thanks for looking! Julie
Thanks coscuvilheiro pat! :)
Lol! I apologize pat! I thought coscuvilheiro meant adorable! I'm laughing so hard! You are not coscuvilheiro!
Laugh out loud! I'm dangerous at this!
He likes us, we are angels :p
Great knee hugger. Going to look for a few tomorrow.
Thanks fort! Hope you find some nice elves!
cutie! love him !
Thank you kyra sweetie!
Adorable find friend!!! "Duende" in spanish, he is watching all to report Santa, wow, this is so cool!
Be good girl!!! :)
Thank you vv! :) Duende is an elf? Oh, some good, some naughty ;) lol
Yes, elf=duende
naughty=travieso
Totally agree, a mix of both ;)
Ha ya! ;)
To date myself , I remember my Mom getting these with a detergent...can't remember what brand. And yeah it was in the 60's.
Thanks for sharing that hedge! I love how they used to give out cool things with products! Someone else told me about some little British made animal figures that were included in tetley tea :)
That would be "Elf on a Shelf" around here. The grand son had one show this last weekend and he sure is being a good boy,lol
Ah yes, elf on the shelf, and these guys work like a charm :)
Gotta love the Elf on a Shelf!!
Thanks jscott! Sure do!
My family had one of these in the 60s as part of the yearly traditional Christmas ornaments, back when they were considered cute, unlike the somewhat creepy Elf on a Shelf spies that have been re-marketed since 2005!
These elves aren't so "elfy" when you unfold their legs - they're really TALL!
Hi Kudur, Yes! When I saw the elf on the shelf books, I was like, they ripped that off from knee-huggers :) Joyous holidays to you! :)
Jewels, the more I'm immersed into the whole antique world I realize how much stuff (and ideas) that we have today are just rip-offs from the past. It's certainly getting more difficult to come up with anything truly original - mostly just repackaged in plastic and a different country of manufacture.
Merry merry to you as well!
Kydur, very interesting, you're right, it seems Japan once was where China is today with exports. I often wonder what we might see in antique malls 30 or 40 years from now--the mass produced made in China products, hmmm...
elf knee huggers are so cute!
i found these (2) and wanted to see what your thoughts were....besides...yikes, their creepy :)
