    i've had quite a few of run of the mill elephant garden seats - lots of cheap ones from all ages out there. but these are absolutely beautifully glazed seats. these are very, very heavy and hand-made. i think they may be quite old. i've only seen one other one similar and that one was from Victorian times. i think that this pair may also be from the late 1800s.

      Beautiful pair of elephants !
      Are they chinese or indian??
      I could never use them as seats ! Think id use them as large pot stands or as they are, indoors :-)

      thank you surfdub66 and PhilDavidAlexanderMorris! i' not sure where they're from, but the glaze and heavy stoneware remind me of california tiles from the 1920s. like Faience, even? the colors really are great. i'm going to move them to the nursery tomorrow.

      oops! these are new [last 30 yrs], high quality pottery from vietnam. still nice though!
