This is an original and scarce 1938 Dante program from my private collection of Magic ephemera. This program was kept in between the pages of a rare 1933 book for decades, possibly since its printing in 1938 and as a result helped preserve it! As you can see from the photos, this program is in EXCELLENT condition!
This 4 page program was printed to advertise Dante The Magician and his Big Company of Skilled Mystifiers at the Empire Palace Theatre in Leeds, UK. on October 24th, 1938.
Danish born Harry August Jansen (Dante) grew up in Chicago, where his interest in magic flourished. In addition to becoming a vaudeville performer, he opened a magic shop where he sold novelties, pocket tricks, parlor magic effects and made a specialty of building custom stage illusions. Jansen went on to manage the workshop of Howard Thurston, whom re-christened Jansen with the stage name of "Dante" and sent him on tour in 1922.
Great program!
I like me the title "Sim- Sala- Bim", very musical and powerful.
Thanks for share zguy!
Thanks girl! Yes, "Sim-Sala-Bim" was a GREAT line Dante came up with! Glad you approve.
