I purchased an unusual nativity set from a secondhand store and I would like to know more about it. I’d like to know if this is a hand crafted or manufactured nativity set, who made the set and where it was made, the age of the set, and if there are additional pieces that go with this set.
The set consists of 12 pieces in total all made out of clay. The 8 people figures have very detailed facial features and unusually large feet and hands. The set consists of The Three Wise Men ranging in height from
8 ¾’’ to 8’’ tall, all sitting on camels and all wearing crowns, one carrying a treasure box, one carrying a jug, and one carrying a goblet. Infant Jesus is in a manger with Mother Mary kneeling in prayer (5 ¾’’ tall) and Joseph carrying a staff in hand (6’’ tall). Both Mary and Joseph appear to have halos behind their heads. There is one angel with wings carrying a wreath and one shepherd carrying a staff in one hand and a lamb on his back. These pieces are about 4 ½’’ tall. There are 4 animals; rooster, ram, ox, and donkey. Some of the pieces have the initials V.Q. painted on the bottom. Any information is greatly appreciated.
