Hello everyone, it has been awhile since I've posted anything, but this is an interesting item. It was too unique to pass up for a few dollars at an antique mall I visited today. Just came in....I do not want to take any guesses and embarrass myself but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Clearly a hand carved piece with some age to it. Carvings/engravings are flattened and piece has a nice patina to it. Some of the carvings are dulled a bit. Looks like a woman or man with two children. One is sitting the other is upside down, but all three are interlocked at the arms. The piece is light, so it must be a light soft wood like pine, but I am not sure. Looks like an open grain. Anyone have opinions? I took some images with the flash on to get the details. Thanks enjoy!!!

It's a interesting piece & who ever it is by the looks of it they seem to work with tools as it looks as if he has a chisel in his hand. Would be great to find out for sure. Have a great day. Hope you have a good Christmas & new Year with family & friends.

Wow!! What a strange one !!!
      I love it :-)
Love wood carvings .. they're made from all sorts of woods , some really heavy some so light like balsa !! Some really wall carved (normally the heavy ones like lignum)
A lot are African /mexican could be one of the Hawaian islands ..
i know volcanic islands have lots of pines cos theyre about the only trees that will grow well when they've been burnt ...

I missed this earlier as I don't jump in here much now. Certainly softwood from what I can see where it is broken. I won't comment on age but I will tell you how to fake it. If you buy these raw and un finished you brush turpentine on them and set it on fire. Then (wearing welding gloves) use steel wool to rub the fire out. Take some dust from the vacuum cleaner (fine dust) and rub it in before it dries. Turns a new carving into a masterpiece. Never advertise it as an antique....just offer it for sale and you are covered. You didn't say it is something it isn't. City people suck it up.
