Did you happen to remember that a Japenese sub actually attacked the Richfield oil field just west of Santa Barbara Calif on Feb 23, 1942 and destroyed two large Richfield oil reserve tanks? The Richfield Oil Company began in the early 1900s but like many oil companies, it had financial stress during the depression and went in to receivership for several years before finally being saved by a bigger Oil Company. It's more of the same old story of the bigger fish eating the smaller ones and now it is finally combined with ATLANTIC oil to be called ARCO but actually owned by BP oil of England! That's the short version, but takes us up to today. I remember the war years as I was living on the coast of so Calif at the time and we were always concerned about an invasion coming from the sea. Because I was very young I was not aware that a Sub had already attacked our shores just up the road a pace!!! Speaking of wars and invasions: are you aware that other Countries have chosen NOT to invade the USA soley because so many of our citizens are armed? There are more armed hunters in Wisconson than most standing armies in most Countries! Isn't America great?
Yes, America is great!
