I found this tool at an antique fair. I have no idea what it is. I thought that someone looking would be sure to know it's purpose.
It is made from black painted cast iron or steel. It is about the size of a scissors, and has the writing "CVM Co. ... Pat Pend. .....NY" in raised lettering on the fulcrum point of the tool.
When closed together, the tips do not quite touch and are not exactly aligned point to point. This may be because of usage and the points were once turned askew to one another.
One point has a definite pin like end and the other point has a tapered point, similar to a pencil point.
It is a quality made piece, and looks as though it had some industrial application or use.
Can someone please identify this tool, It's driving me crazy not knowing. ......... hotairfan

Looks like ice tongs to me...what an iceman used to pick up ice when it was delivered to people's homes before refrigeration. Check out a website called icebox memories.com.

They don't have the leverage needed for ice tongs. The link posted does not show one set like this item.

Now ... What happened to the comments that were on this item?

what really puzzles me is the points, one looks like a pin is inserted into the jaw and the other is just ground to a taper....... hotairfan
