Very detailed throughout. I'm not sure what the stone is. It is missing a couple of stones, other than that in great condition. I would like to know more about this brooch. I know the person who owned it was born in the 1930's
Does it seem like glass, I'm thinking with the air bubbles, or is something set in resin?
Swirl isn't sign of natural stone... Plus in pic one I can see two tiny bubbles...
Reminds me of a butterscotch swirl glass piece . Very pretty .

Yes, I was hoping the air bubble picture would help determine the setting.
Thanks for the comments.
I have the same one in pink http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/84644-german-costume-brooch--how-old-could-it
Mine is marked Germany on the back. I guess it might be a bit earlier than the 60's because otherwise it would say West/East Germany. But I could be wrong:)

This one is very close, too. The back is a bit different but the glass and the design look the same to me:)
