Hand Painted Nippon. Nippon is the Anglicized version of Japan used from the 189s to the 1920s, after which Made In Japan was used.
I looked through Kovels and didn't see your exact mark. There are about a hundred Nippon crown and shield marks, you should be able to pin yours down with a bit of searching.
Thankyou Katherinscollections, I have found the same mark but it was on a piece being sold, didnt have the exact date just the dates you mention above,i shall keep looking. It always amazes me the things you can find that are so old and cost so little :)
It's lovely. And looks quite translucent which I understand is indicative of the higher end Nippon pieces. Some of the china experts on here should be able to give you more information than what I have learned in my limited experience.
Good luck!
Ahh right ok,thanks :)
Ha, thank you for saying so, Weirdpuckett, I am an amateur trying to learn a little from the true experts on here like jwendell, boggles the mind what they know.
I've got this exact same bowl, well almost, it is same pattern with roses but slightly different in areas. The mark is the same for sure. I've been trying to find out about it too, did you ever find anything out about this mark?
According to one website this mark is Royal Crown Kinran.
Hello tigerchips I gave up with this one :)
