    I have only been able to find out it is a water buffalo. At first I thought it was a steer or a billy goat, lol. I'm not sure how old or from where it cane from, no markings.

      I have a similar one, the same color, the same animal, but with a Chinese man riding it and reading a book and mounted on a marble base. I assumed the stone was soapstone and that the animal was an ox.

      It took me awhile to figure out that it was a water buffalo, I would love to see a picture of yours.

      Soapstone was just to obvious as probably the majority of these type figures are made of it. Easy enough to tell by scratching the underside.
