I recently purchased a job lot at an auction and this ring was included. I know that it is solid 9 carat gold with a cast eagle cameo. I have never seen a cameo/intaglio ring without a hard stone carving before and thought this coupled with the subject matter was unusual. It weighs approximately 8.2 grams and is a very solid and well made piece. The hallmarks are difficult to make out without giving the piece a good clean, which I would prefer not to do until I have a bit more direction/information about what it could be.
The hallmarks I can make out are as follows; the letters 'SJ' inside a rectangle on the left inner part of the shank (which is often the makers' initials or marks), and on the right side we have four hallmarks all within individual bevelled squares/rectangular shapes, a small 'o' or teardrop, a '375' signifying 9 carat gold. Admittedly, I cannot make out the last two, but I don't recognise them or the shapes of the characters inside immediately.

Absolutely ANY help or direction with this would be greatly appreciated, even if it is to dispel the loose idea that this ring may have some connotation to World War II Germany. Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

You're going to have to clean it in order to be able see what is under the fun! If you don't want to clean the whole thing, just take a toothpick, they won't scratch it and dip it in some windex...even better you could take a toothbrush to it. That won't hurt this one either. Can't tell until you can see it :)

Yep, would need to see the other two stamps. "o" could be UK year letter for 1969 or 1949, but would require a stamp identifying the assay office as well.

      Hi..
I know this was posted quite a while ago, but I am very interested to know what you found out about this ring.
I have an identical ring. I dont know very much about where it came from origionaly, but mine belonged to my late grandfather who served during ww2.
I have an interest in German ww2 history and recently my partner said to me "your ring on your finger looks a bit like one of those German eagles from ww2"
So I thoufht I would see if there was anything similar online with any history.

Whilst I never thought it was a ww2 ring, it would be intwresting to find out any info.
Who knows it could very well be.

      Mine also has 'SJ' inside
