I know my dad used an all wooden one in the 60's and 70's - a lot of our stuff got lost (or stolen) when we moved and I remember this from the 80's. My dad made a whole lot of pies over the years and he NEVER bought a pre-made crust, always made from scratch per grandma's recipes.

This marble rolling pin may be older than 1980's. I received mine as a gift from my mother in 1976. They are very heavy and are just great for rolling any kind of dough. I will never part with mine. My set came with the rolling pin as pictured above in your photo with the wooden cradle and also a large finished and polished marble slab that resembles a cutting board, but made of the same marble and also very heavy. There is a type of rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from moving around while your rolling out your dough. Perfect size for making pie crusts.
