This ornate item is a replica from the early 1970s. The phone itself is a bit flimsy and has a lot of plastic parts, but the dialer, cultured marble top, and brass-plated cast-metal pedestal and base are quite heavy and solid.

I bought this on a whim for $25 because I liked the way it looked in respect to the sort of things I collect, but had a bit of buyer's remorse soon after.

It needs some rewiring so I don't know if it works, and it's missing the pen stand that was mounted in a hole next to the dialer. As I went online to try to find more information about these things I realized how relatively rare they are and that as a 40+ year vintage item it may not have been going off the rails too far for me to make the purchase.

It looks great as long as you don't touch it - then you realize it is what it is!

I have the same telephone. Purchased it quite a few years ago on Ebay. Mine has the pen and the mount still and wiring (believe needs redone of course) and a picture in the center of the rotary. Great piece. I researched and came up that these phones were used in a hotel lobby for guests to use. Gave quite a bit more than what you gave, I believe roundabout $150 or so.

Honeysuckleboutique, does yours have a metal handset? Does it have a hefty feel and a sense of quality to it?

My handset is just light (as in non heavy) injection-molded plastic that is brass-plated (?) to look like metal. Ditto with the handset cradle. Everything related to the handset is very flimsy and feels quite cheap. Even the threaded part that fastens the cradle to the marble top is plastic!

The dialer unit is metal and feels very solid, as does the rest of the pedestal and cultured marble top. It would be reassuring to know that some reproductions out there were made of better quality than this one.

This is Sweet -- the dialer part is part of the other area~~
