The following text as outlined from a letter from White Star Line, spelling errors included:
Titanic sailed from Belfast with crates of new silver plate and crockery bound for Southampton on board were the new patterns for the dining rooms of Titanic and some for the Olympic on her return from New York, some entertaining was carried out on route and on entering Southampton these items for Olympic were re-boxed and put to store. After the loss of Titanic the opinion was not to use these plates again. The remaining plates were then donated to the Shoreditch Parish retirement seaman's village.
Many years later a local shipping historian noticed upon visiting some of the seamans' homes that they were eating off of plates that he had seen a couple of months earlier when visiting the restoration warehouse of RMS Titanic. RMS Titanic then rescued the plates from the village and the plates were found to be a perfect match, brown burgee and green pattern, 20 mitre pattern to exterior edge (no other ship other than Titanic had had the new pattern supplied to them. 16 mitre pattern was the normal feature), batch number R&N 117214, serial number R&N 324028, Stonier & Co. Liverpool. Only 8 plates were left intact and this is one of those plates. This plate has been in Titanic artifact shows in both New Zealand and the national Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit.
