    Merry Christmas!!

Have this 5 set of Russian Nestling Dolls. They are done up to look like Angels. Appear to be made of turned wood, as you can see that when you look inside. Not sure of age -- but I had probably for about 25 years. The largest one is about 6.5 inches tall.

I believe they are all hand-painted too.....?

Great for Xmas -- and to keep kids busy....LOL

Back in the 1960's and 70's almost everyone in East Germany had a set like this.
This brings back memories of all sorts; including nightmares.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that these were made post 1990. Everything before that ( i.e. during Soviet era) was produced according to heavily regulated standards, and these dolls don't have the classic look. They are done in a free format, which became popular after the collapse of the regime, when artists got more freedom of expression.
