I picked this up today at the Alameda Antiques Fair. It stands just under 3 inches tall and wide. It looks like it was painted by 'Gloria' and was made for some company which has the Word 'Bursley' in it. It's a very pretty little piece and very well-made - even/thin walls. Looks like it is from the 1920s or so. Maybe a toothpick-holder? The glazing is very special.

Thank you aghcollect! it does say Bursley Ltd. Crown Pottery which would put it at or before 1920, i think. it's a pretty unusual piece, even for Bursley at that time, i think. reminds me of Clarice Cliff too.

it looks a lot like Clarice Cliff's Delecia pattern. i wonder if there is a connection?

Wow! thanks inky! it does look a LOT like Shelley. i wonder what the history is?

'Gloria' would have been the name of the decor I suspect not the painter, the painters usually only put initials on their wares.. if anything!
    9. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 10 years ago
i agree inky. it would be the name of the line of pottery w/ similar/related decoration. i haven't found anything w/ 'gloria' in it though.

here's a shelley bowl which looks so similar, but a little bit later [in my opinion]: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Shelley-England-Art-Deco-drip-ware-green-orange-large-bone-china-bowl-vgc-/231410578399?pt=UK_PotteryPorcelain_Glass_PotteryPorcelain_China_SM&hash=item35e12533df

Looks like "Gloria" was pretty proud of that piece, I know I would!
