This bedwarmer belonged to an elderly client who was downsizing from her big house and moving into a Senior's condo complex. Her children and relatives had gone through everything and taken what they wanted and she was practically giving away the stuff left behind.
It was hanging by her fireplace and I was told it was very much used when she was younger and it has all the battered marks to support that claim - although it might have also been used as a paddy-whacker back in the days of corporal punishment.
There's no markings on this to aid in my research to determine age and make. Even though it was quite dented I snapped it up for $3 and have it hanging on my wall. Hard to imagine that people actually put hot rocks (and often red-hot coals) in these things and took it to bed with them!
The pan is 10.5" in diameter and the whole thing is 43" long.
I've been looking for one of these, there aren't easy to find a good price. Nice pick!
Late 1800's early 1900's? It is in very good shape.
I wish I knew more on how to date it. I think that someone with knowledge of styles through the different periods might be able to narrow it down based on the turning of the handle.
