This is one of two hand bells I've purchased at thrift stores. This was the least expensive of the two (at $8), also larger (at 5.5" in diameter and 10" tall), and with the brass fitting on the handle it looks more authentic. The (oak?) wooden handle is well-worn like its seen quite a bit of use.
The bell appears to be cast brass (or maybe bronze), but has also been covered with lacquer at some point; not sure if that's original or not. The exterior of the bell is quite pitted (like it's been used to hit something) but it's also an even pitting all around the bell and tends to add more than distract from its appearance. It's missing the original ringer and now has a brass nut attached to a copper wire.
No maker's marks as usual and I know nothing more about it!
