I purchased this from a consignment store and have no idea of its history or age. I loved the way it looked so I bought it. It measures 44.5" high by 25.5" wide and 14" in depth. The top pulls down by the key only. When it's up, it's flush with the sides. The drop down part is 2 pieces of veneer and the raised scrollwork is beautiful. I think the drawer hardware is original -- there is a knob and a backplate and they appear to be cast brass. The desk originally came with caster wheels. The drawers are curved outward in the middle. There are no markings anywhere. I'd love to know more about it!
Really nice piece. Hope you got a good deal.
This has seen a rebuild and some replacements. If you look at picture #1 and compare the legs they are a mismatch Last picture (the rear view) also shows mismatch in the leg, back and side. Not a huge issue but a particular/fussy buyer would notice it right away.
Thank you so much for the comments! fhrjr2 -- I did notice the back leg looked like it had been repaired or replaced. But I don't see the mismatch in picture #1 on the front legs. They look original to me but I'm very inexperienced in buying vintage pieces. Of any kind. :) If you have a moment, can you point out where the difference is at?? I would sure appreciate it! Thank you!
