This music box was stolen from our home in the early 1980's during a burglary. It had belonged to my mother-in-law and, upon her death, was inherited by my wife. Since it was a very valuable piece, it was accepted by the International Foundation for Art Research for inclusion in their Stolen Art Alert publication Volume 4 Number 9 December 1983.
They identified it as a " 1440 Swiss, 19th Century, Music Box, 1816. Mahogany with brass handles. L. 61 cm. Marked on interior: Marque de Fabrique 1816, Jacot's Patent Safety Check Sept. 22,1886, and no. 40302. Crank on right. Plays seven tunes, one of which is the Toreador. Wood chipped on the front"
Hi CindB - Unfortunately, we never recovered it. The picture was taken prior to the robbery.
