Can't sew a lick myself, but I love fabric. Sometimes I come across a handmade quilt and bring it home, wash and dry and iron it, only to find it is even more beautiful than I realized. Some quilts are simply charming, especially the small ones that were clearly meant for babies. And some are touching, meant for a person that may have been in poor health.
Here are some recent finds. Sorry I don't know anything about patterns, quilting appears to be a very technical science as much as an art. I was interested to learn that experts can tell you the era a quilt was made if they can identify the pattern and by looking at the fabric! In my case, it has helped when I've found quilts that were signed, as was the case for the second, third, and fourth quilt in the pictures.
Thanks, Jewels. :)
Thanks, aghcollect. :)
Thanks, SEAN68. :)
PDAM, my gran made quilts and had a number of them, when it came time to go through her things, the quilts were all gone. As I recall they were crazy quilts, scraps and remnants of clothing, towels, flour sacks, fabric.

Thanks for the love, CindB. :)
Oh CindB, what a tragedy!!! How many did you lose?
Oh my gosh, how awful for you. I'm so sorry.
Katherine lovely quilts! I also love fabric and tresure all the work someone put into them.
The great writer Joan Didion has written that there is no way to make up for loss. It does seem as though the hardest thing we have to deal with in life is/are the things we lose.
I look forward to seeing your item and reading the story.
CindB, my heart goes out to you!!!! That's so sad. Maybe, just maybe you will make a new quilt to free yourself from some of that. Maybe you can find some antique/second hand tools? I know it's just not the same, But I think the greatest tool your have is your knowledge about how to do it, it's in you and in your hands. I don't know how to do them and I admire those who can. To me they are pieces of art!!
Thanks for the love, Elisabethan, and SEAN68. :)
