Here is another Atterbury 'Hand With Dove' covered dish. It has the 1889 patent date molded inside the lid. It does look like the 'glue' for the 'gem' in the ring has discolored. I've noticed on some of these that the glass gems sometime have facets. However, this one has beads for both the dove's eye and ring setting. So I'm not really sure what may have been original, but think the bead for the eye does look more natural.

thanks WP : ) It may have been offered with different gems cuts; not really sure without some type of original catalog or patent intent. But the old 'glue' that was used does fail and the gem get replaced along the way. Yes, this was a fairly recent acquisition, but has undisclosed chips; so it's going back. But I thought it was still a good example to share here. You could probably find a suitable small glass bead or facet for the eye of your piece at a hobby store.

the patent date is hard to see and I couldn't get a photo to work. Look inside under the lid opposite the bird; there is a flat area from the wrist to end of little finger where the date is molded.

that's one only place I can confirm from this one... These types of markings were some of the first details to go from subsequent uses of molds; so I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of a molded-in date.

again thank you again for your help on the glass screiber and neffen butterfly dishes. I do believe they actually are going to a museum in brno cz. they are actively buying items and the museum is where they should be.
