I found it years ago with my metal detector and have no clue other than its heavy its 33"w + 38"H. looks it had some kinda gold colored stuff showing threw in places and green oxidization meaning copper along the design. at first we thought it was a fire back but none are made like this. Now thanks to this site after 25od yrs of owning this its revealed to be a Summer Front for an Late 1800s Fire Place. Not much else is know on were it came from But !! THERE IS ONE CLUE ON IT !!! it has in the casting rising above in english PLATE 4. Hmmmm 4th made or is there 3 more??? perhaps 4th in a series ????? The mystery continues.... any clue folks ? please leave a reply. Thank you and Happy Hunting !!

Looking at the pictures and the notches on the sides, I would think you have part of a summer front. They were used to block off the fireplace opening during the summer. They mounted on the surround that was permanently mounted around the fire box.
