Hello all, this is a vintage black umbrella with a lucite knob handle--it has a tag marked Henryson made in the USA. I cannot get it to fold all the way, but hey, it was a dollar and I love it and I will use it! Thanks for looking! Julie

Hello Mary Poppins!!!!
Hi sean! Lol
Jewels, you used the word "vintage" in your description of this umbrella and I was just wondering what the definition is for you?
In my cuckoo clock posting there was a bit of a discussion regarding the definition and use of the word - and that it doesn't really stand alone: is vintage meaningless without a date attached (i.e. vintage 1932 - sort of like the way "circa" is used)? Or does "vintage" imply a specific time period and/or age in the similar way "antique" does?
I then posted a link to an article on the subject (http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/age-defining-an-130615) and now that's really got me thinking about how I use this word going forward! Seeing as how you used the word the way I "used" to use it (!) I'm really curious what it means to you.
Hi kydur, Thanks for opening up this discussion--This is in my humble opinion and authentically my own use of the word--I call something that I know is more than 100 years old, an antique. If the item is newer than 100 years old, I call it "vintage;" however, I do try to put a date with the vintage declaration, for example, "that's vintage 60's or that's vintage 50's." As far as this umbrella, I am not too sure, but I know it is vintage, probably 50's, but don't know for sure, so I used a generic "vintage." I will read your blog comment, as I'm always willing to learn :)
