These cast iron relics were a common household tool in the 1700's and 1800's. They were used to grind everything from cooking herbs, medicinal plants, seeds, nuts, dried fruits, and I'm sure many more things around the Colonial household.
The hand wheel would roll in the V shaped body and crush the herbs and such to a pulverized powder to use for their purposes. .. hotairfan
hotairfan...hey, I just found one of these today. In the least likely of all places a consignment shop. But I got a good deal on it so I did not hesitate. My is marked:
"G.B. Rogers"
Does yours have any markings like that? Just curious. I can post if you would like. Thanks!
Great BHock45, I'd love to see a pic of your herb grinder. They are usually not easy to come by, even though they were used by most households. Mine does not have a maker's name stamped anywhere. I wish it did.
