My wife has been cutting my hair for the past 50 years of our marriage and finally I purchased this cool Barber pole and mounted it on the wall in our home claiming I had finally "made an honest woman" out of her! She didn't get the humor? In any event the barber pole is extremely cool and even the motor works and the stripes turn when it's plugged in. I found it in an antique store in Waiamea Kauai so you know it has a great story that goes with it! One never knows when or where a cool antique might show up so I'm always on the look. This particular find did give me a bit of a surprise and especially when I asked the price and it was $125!!!!! Really? I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough! This is a real 30s cast iron antique with the moss green and yellow porcelain coating! I did, however, have to find the glass ball for the top, but that wasn't hard either as they had one at Habitat for Humanity for $5 and it was just down the street.
We advertise 10 cent haircuts while you get your oil changed and car lubed. Isn't America a great place to live?
Great Find!
The Barber pole swirls and colors represent back in the very Medieval old days -- Your Barber was also your Dentist and Known for bloodletting. When you had you teeth pulled and they hung the rags outside, the rags would twist and twirl in the wind. Thus the colors of Red, white and blue...and the swirling motion. Here is a longer detail:

Does your wife comment that it does not take as long as it used too? (Cutting your hair that is...)
Mine does, as she makes a reference to my balding head... :-)
