This is a piece that I have had in my collection for as long as I can remember. I wonder about it's origin and history, but I suppose only that story could have come from the maker. Perhaps there is some useful purpose for this item that I am not aware of? Maybe the hunter that killed the animal that this was attached to just made this for show and tell?
It looks to me like it could be a boars tusk or perhaps a tooth or bone of some kind. It is capped with a chopped down 30-30 Winchester cartridge made by Remington-Peters Ammunition Company, that much I do know!
I'm wondering if anyone knows what type of animal the tusk ( or tooth) is from, and if so, what approximate age could the animal have been due to the wear on the "beveled" part of the tooth,or tusk?
Thank you,
Wendy Joy
