It was love at first sight. She introduced herself as Martina. Her brown eyes sparkled when revealing her secret of being born in 2005 yet travelling from 1873 to meet me in that summer of 2013. The sunlight scattered through crystal earrings... blinded by her spell I implored her to stay.

I brought her home for $3 but that doesn't mean she's cheap. Slight her with innuendo disrespecting her dignity and she will knock you down like a row of dominoes. She can take take care of herself. She'll rob you blind if you gamble too long staring at her timeless beauty - her casual gaze will melt you or slay you. She always wins.

Modern lady vases are created as original limited edition sculptures, each one hand cast in bonded porcelain, then hand painted. There's a glass vial concealed in the top of the head for small flower bouquets. This one measures 4-5/8" wide x 4" deep x 6" tall. The vial is 5/8" in diameter and 3" deep.

    From the Cameo Girls website:

History of the Original Lady Head Vases

The first lady head vases appeared before World War II, but their popularity reached its heyday during the 1950s when American florists used them as incentives to promote the sale of flower arrangements. It is estimated that more than 10,000 lady head vase designs were created, primarily in ceramic or porcelain materials. By the 1960s, there was scarcely a home in America which did not contain a solitary lady vase on a vanity table, or a row of the demure beauties in a window sill.

Today, those original lady head vases are highly collectible, with some vases fetching prices over $1,000. Most prized are those which feature the likenesses of celebrities or familiar characters. Vintage lady head vases made from unusual materials or by unique manufacturers are also avidly collected.

Nice one Kydur!! And, if you're not a writer by trade, you may want to consider becoming one. Well written story! :)

Thanks Scott. I need elusive inspiration to write, and inspired writing from the heart has been my life's greatest downfall thus far - not the best way to earn one's livelihood!

Writing to and about a (presumably) inanimate object is fairly safe, even if one risks the accusations of misplaced emotions!

CindB, I've become rather possessive so be careful about your advances towards her...!

The only reason I missed the intent gaze of this beauty is that I was in ICU when you first revealed her.
I hope that is sufficient excuse for not previously loving and adoring her.

Hi racer, I hope everything is OK with you.

No problem Racer, just keep an extra watchful eye on your dominoes... you know what they say about a woman scorned!
