Two Days ago, drcfarmstead posted the ice chipper pictured above. He soon received an answer as to what it was.
This ice cuber is the matching partner that it was made for. Here is how it works:
Before refrigerators, we had ice boxes. The only way to make ice cubes for your drinks on a hot summer day, was to use the ice cuber.
You filled the top of the cuber with hot water and set it on the block of ice in your ice box. The heat from the water would radiate down through the fins and melt their way into the ice block. When melted down to the water chamber, you lifted out the tool and used the chipper tool to pluck your newly made ice cubes. The ice cubes would be captured in the chipper tool and you could gather them without ever touching them and transfer them to your glass of lemonade for a cold beverage. ...hotairfan
