When we started collecting Loetz several years ago we were not only fascinated by the brilliant iridescence and designs but also by the various colors that Loetz used with each decor. Some decors ONLY come in one color like the "Argus" decor which MUST be in a "spreading chestnut" color. The PG (Phänomen Genre) decor 6893 was one of the earliest Phänomen's produced by Loetz and also one of the most popular. Loetz produced this decor in almost all of the colors that were available at the time so we have enjoyed finding examples of this decor in the various colors that were produced! The pictures included show the various colors that we have in this decor and how they look in different lighting with flash and without flash.
Great commentary on PG 6893
Must disagree about Argus. It came in a lemon yellow as well. Jan Afford has a nice one on the web site.
Go to Loetz.com and check out PG 3/430 and you will find the yellow ones. These do look like the Argus decor but Argus is known as PG 2/351. I know this will seem confusing but as soon as the ground color changes from "Spreading Chestnut" to any other color like Metalic Yellow or Red, Loetz changed the decor name as well. I might also mention that some of the examples shown on the Loetz.com site under "Argus" may actually be PG 3/430. The first one that is more bronze is definitely Argus. If the other ones on the Loetz.com site that seem more organgey than bronze (this may just be a matter of photography) are truly orangey/red, then they should also be placed with the PG 3/430 examples. I hope this helps.
THANKS LOETZ DANCE. As they say, you learn something new every day !
You are so right! Just yesterday I learned that the PG 3/430 in Metallic red looks more orange than red!
