We had this 1920's kitchen cook stove in our dining room for over 25 years. It was a piece that we decorated the room with. This year we decided to put a chimney up through the enclosed patio roof, and set the stove out there to warm the room so my wife could watch her soaps and other TV shows.
The stove works great on wood and nut sized anthracite coal. As you can see in the pic of the firebox, it burns well.
The oven works good enough for me to bake cookies, I also dried apple snitz (dried apples), made coffee, and fried potatoes on the burner. Yes, I said I did it!
There is even a warming chamber above the burners to keep bread and pies warm like I remember my Grandma did.
Sometimes, simple pleasures like this are the things that our grandchildren will remember as I did with my Grandma. ... hotairfan

Virginia, I can feel that "magic" too. I'll give my 2nd "LOVE" here. I've used the old stone ovens in the islands for cooking & you can't beat the taste you get. Hard to explain as it's not some flavour added, but an unwanted taste you don't get. Don't worry as it doesn't make sense to me either!

Do you know age and maker of this stove? I have one similar to this one which belonged to my great grand mother? It has green glass knobs but otherwise a twin to this one

      Hi cpcdoc,
This is a Bengal stove. It was made between 1920 and 1930. The handles on my stove are possibly not the original knobs to this model. They were missing when I got it and the ones that are on were set in a box by the warming oven. I just assumed that they were the proper knobs, so, it is possible that the knobs that are on your stove are the proper ones. The only questionable problem is that you say that your knobs are glass. My knobs are metal with a wire coil wrapped around the rims to dissipate the heat that is transferred to them when the stove is operating.
I believe glass knobs would get quite hot to the touch during stove operation.
