Christmas gifts are all opened. I got a couple of wonderful gifts from the kids and the wife, including this beautiful crystal cigarette holder and ashtray.
It stands 9" tall. The base is solid brass and the Cherub appears to be silver-plated, as it has some tarnish.
The original seller that she bought it from said it was from the late 1940s to early 1950s but who knows if they were lying or not.
The crystal is cut nicely, with the grooves for the cigarettes in 2 of the 4 corners. The lid comes off to reveal the cigarette holder itself.
The underside says "MADE IN SPAIN."
No makers marks, patent numbers, or branding anywhere on it.
Any ideas? I just was hoping to date it and find out anything you experts might know. It might even be a reproduction, but I tend to doubt it. It appears to have real age and patina.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas!
Mr E, my dad is on the way to Vegas as we speak... :)
Nice! You didn't want to join him? Is he a collector too? If he is here over the weekend, he could check out Broadacres (The Vegas Swap Meet). It is worth going just for the experience of the whole thing.
He begged me to go, but I couldn't get away. Next time! We always have a blast! 5 hour dinners with lots of wine! :D He isn't a collector per say...I made him get an account here, he is SJR. He says he will be buying himself something from the Regis gallerie, it is his little fun time :)
Regis gallerie? I've been it before. Very nice.
I will be at the swap meet as usual this weekend. Should be a pretty good crowd of people trying to off the crap that they got. :)
He just touched down. I will tell him about the swap meet. That would totally be my style! I love that kind of stuff! But prolly not him. He prolly doesn't even know what a swap meet is. we did go to a little market thing in Lake Tahoe and he liked it :)
Great gift! Jewels seems in a world of her own. LOL!
Laugh out loud bb2! Why? :)
"And the meek shall inherit the earth". LOL again!
Bb2, I have had a couple glasses of wine, but I am lost! Lolo
Broadacres is not an ordinary market. That's for sure.
It's over 1100 vendors, including fly-by-nighters that rent a space for a single day as well as permanent vendors that maintain a storage shed on their space.
I stick toward the used vendors versus the new good, obviously. It is about 60% used and 40% new on average. Mostly Mexican vendors and shoppers. Large stage hosts live bands every weekend, usually Mariachi bands. Beer is sold throughout the complex and you can walk around with it. It is almost all outdoor, with one indoor annex.
Definitely an acquired taste. Not for the meek. :)
I could totally hang! :) I know I could!
Well, after a brownie &
few
beers,
I'm calling it a nite. It's a nite!!!!
Well lolol night! :)
Thank you Jewels. I need it.
