Hi rich, she might not have seen your post...are the eyes plastic or glass? I believe that might be a clue...
    7. richard179, 10 years ago
Hi jewels they look like plastic to me x
    8. richard179, 10 years ago
Please can anybody help as iam not having much luck
    9. Jewels Jewels, 10 years ago
Hi rich, I just read about a burn test! To test for mohair, I don't know if it is good to do. I google search vintage teddy bear dating and was reading results--let you know if I find anything interesting :)
    10. richard179, 10 years ago
Thanks jewels your a good en lol ps you just like to see me bear lol
    11. Jewels Jewels, 10 years ago
:) haha! I read some articles. There are many factors to consider, materials, such as fur type, stuffing, eyes, etc. And style. The stuffing you describe sounds older...The thing that stands out to me would be the plastic eyes, which I would say make it 40's or later as you said. I know manikin can help you, but I learned a few things :)

    14. Jewels Jewels, 10 years ago
Rich, the items just kind of cycle through and the experts in particular field will take notice of it and the fact that you have it in unsolved mystery helps...I will save your post and "love" it again to bring attention for you :)

Hard to tell without holding it . It looks like mohair but also there is material that resembles it so well today . The bear looks like a artist bear to me made in likeness of a antique bear , I would have to hold it but I have seen these made by great doll artists ,my friend included . So reluctant to date yours by a photo. He is a cute guy though :-) and well made . What are bottom of paws made of ?
    17. richard179, 10 years ago
Hi manikin i would say there made from the same material as the fur but not quite as hard if that makes any sence to you.
    18. richard179, 10 years ago
i know its hard just be looking at pics manikin but the bottom of the paws and hands lol are the same as whats aroud his nose if you look at the 2nd picture from the left
    19. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
Look at these and that it what makes it hard to date they are a artist Bear and done in style of antique bear , thats why so hard to tell without holding yours

    21. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
I am 99.99 % sure it is mohair it is age I can not confirm but he is a wonderful bear !!
    22. richard179, 10 years ago
Manikin does this help x lol I've just done a little burn test? Oh no I've stunk the room out it smells horrible lol it did not catch fire as such the flame kept going out but when it did finally burn it just went hard and crumbled to like a powder type thing
    23. Manikin Manikin, 10 years ago
I have never had to do a burn test LOL but mohair does does not want to burn it puts its self out and glows orange as I have been told . I can see by photo it is mohair :-))
    24. Jewels Jewels, 10 years ago

Manikin what would you think is the best way for me to try and get a date to this thing x have you any idea
    31. Teddygirl, 10 years ago
Hi Richard I have a bear just like yours. I got mine for my birthday in 1967. Mine is 20 inches. Growls when you tilt it. A flat button type tail. I've also never known what make it is.
I did some research and came across this.
Schuco/Fechter "Goldie" teddy bear, German/Austrian, 1960s, blond mohair with golden short pile inset muzzle, black plastic eyes, black vertically stitched nose, fully jointed, short pile golden pads, tilt growler, 20"/50cm
Have a look at this auction site for a photo. You will find the listing about midway down.

I would have liked to have put a few photos of my bear on here but am unable to.
I hope that has helped you with the date.
    32. richard179, 10 years ago
Teddygirl thanks for the info x as iam struggling to find anything
    33. richard179, 10 years ago
Teddygirl mine is about 20inchs aswell lol i mean the bear, there is no tags or anything on him and thats making it harder for me to find anything and i dont know anybody who i can take him to to have him looked at? ive been offered £50 for him rom a auction site but really he is not for sale and i my luck would be to sell him for that and he be worth more if you know what i mean
    34. Teddygirl, 10 years ago
Yes I know what you mean.
There are sites on the net that will give you a fare estimation of the bear's value.
