i've only seen this wonderful pink sand near Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur. i'm not sure what makes it this color, but i always collect some when i go to use in my incensarios. Happy New Year everyone!

Explanation of the origin of the "pink sand" - "the brilliant pink sand, consisting of the mineral garnet, found at the present mouths of the Big Sur River and Sycamore Creek. - Garnet is found in rocks in the Santa Lucia Range"

thank you for that info aghcollect!! the Sta Lucia Range - i spent almost every wknd there for a year and a half - a few yrs back. it's one of the most remote locations in California and i love it there.

walksoftly - an incensario is just what i call anything i burn incense in. i think it's a spanish word, but i may have made it up myself!
