Just got these babies after a visit to Rome in November. Can't wait to start work on them but feel a little bit out of my league. Done many projects in the past but never with chairs like this. They're gilded, gypsum all over a beautifully carved wooden frame. Was hoping to keep the patina but they're pretty beaten up so I was thinking of releafing them? Opinions on that are welcome.
Plan of attack was:
Treat for woodworm although not active.
Remove old upholstery
Fill in gypsum, sand and re-leaf the gold all over.
Leave the brass.
Upholster chair with as much original material as possible.
Sound ok?
Hi Phil, thanks for your comment, May I ask if you restored yours yourself too and what you think of my brief plan... Bit intimidated to be honest.
Oh no! Who Baroque them? ALl kidding aside, very pretty chairs! Enjoy the project.
Hehe thank you upstatecollector... I hope it isn't going to be me :)
Thanks again Phil, will post an update in a month or two :)
