These two grey outside /white inside melamine dishes are from the B.O.A.C -(BRITISH OVERSEAS AIRWAYS CORPORATION) possibly made late 60s early 70s , & was used for onboard meals !! (Thanks to aghcollect for that info)
i love all things to do with commercial airlines and have a few travel agent model planes & bits & bobs also a melamine B.O.A.C ashtray in the form of an aeroplanes tail which ill list when i find it !!!

So they were used actually on the plane for meals ..
these ones are 1.5" high so maybe for a pie/lasagna etc

Yes, for meals - the link said circa 1970-1974 and the material is melamine. The ones shown were probably entree and yours probably as you say probably desert or maybe even salad. Looks like one was used as an ashtray but when I traveled I would use my dishes as ashtrays too since those little armrest ashtrays only held 2 or 3 butts. :)

The one that looks like its been used as an ashtray hasn't, it had an old key ring in it when i found it which was wet & rusty which is what the stains are! Sd
