I've been researching this sling shot rifle in the sling shot community forums, with no luck but it has been suggested that it might be a nautical line gun/line launcher. I have found that steel wire frames like this can date as far back as the 1890's. Band driven catapults, (slingshots were also called catapults long ago), were used for shooting lines from ship to ship. So far no one has been able to identify it, all theories. I will try and find a few nautical antique dealers and maybe try the Antiques Roadshow? Please if you might know someone that just might know please refer me and this item, its a head scratcher!
